Workshop at The Slipper Studio, Sunday 10th November 2024
Explore Blind Embossing – printing without ink
Blind embossing is an interesting creative technique. It uses the skills and materials associated with lino cutting, but without all of the mess generated when inking up a plate. Once you have cut a design, the block is rolled through a press with lots of pressure applied, alongside a heavy weight paper. The outcome is subtle, yet very satisfying, with raised lines, shapes and patterns created where the areas on the lino were cut away.
On the workshop we will cover developing ideas into designs and safe cutting techniques when using lino tools, alongside printing using a portable press, exploring wet and dry methods. An alternative will be to use a heavy weight card instead of lino, plus we will also explore cutting and applying colour to blind embossed samples. As it’s getting closer to Christmas, you might think about designs of a festive nature, as the outcomes make great decorations or cards, but it’s not compulsory.
This workshop will suit the creative beginner or those with some experience of different creative processes and techniques.
Sunday 10th November, 10am – 4pm, 5 places, £89 per person, including: tuition, use of equipment, materials, plus refreshments served throughout the day; just bring your lunch.
